Artificial intelligence (AI) and its close cousin, machine learning, are no longer futuristic concepts, because they’re quietly embedding themselves into our daily tasks.
AI tools are working behind the scenes to streamline our workflow and boost our productivity.
Let’s have a look at the features below that area already included in some of the Google apps we are using within Glow,

Generative AI
Please note: Gemini and Gemini Notebook are only available for a small number of local authorities as part of a pilot programme to evaluate how they could be used in the classroom with learners. The pilot will run from Aug 2025 – Jan 2026 and then we will update this page with the outcomes.
Appropriate Use: Generative AI
Be aware that these Generative AI tools contain functionality which allows the upload of pictures and files. It is the responsibility of the user not to upload content or enter prompts which may generate inappropriate or concerning text or imagery, or which contains any personal, sensitive or confidential information.
Please also refer to the Scottish Government’s AI Guidance for Schools when using any kind of AI tool within education.
Gemini
Google Gemini is a Generative AI assistant that could support with boosting creativity and productivity. Google Gemini is a core app that can be found in the Google Workspace app launcher.
Gemini Notebook
Gemini Notebook is an innovative AI tool designed to function as a personalised research and learning assistant within education. Users can upload a variety of source materials, including documents and articles, and engage with them in a more interactive and insightful manner.

Grammar suggestions in Google Docs
Users will see inline, contextual grammar suggestions in documents as they type, just like spellcheck. If you’ve made a grammar mistake, a squiggly blue line will appear under the phrase as you write it. You can choose to accept the suggestion by right-clicking it.
Autocorrect available for Google Docs web
Autocorrect helps you compose documents quickly and with confidence. Misspelled words will automatically be corrected while typing and denoted with a grey dashed underline. As you continue typing, this dashed line will disappear.

You can translate documents into many languages with Google Docs.

Type with your voice in Google Docs & Slides

Quick access in Google Drive
Quick Access shaves 50 percent off the average time it takes to get to the right file by eliminating the need to search for it. It uses machine learning to intelligently predict the files you need before you’ve even typed anything.
Smart Compose
You can use Smart Compose in Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Drawings to help you write documents faster and more easily.
