App Request Process

Estimated Reading Time: 2 mins

The Glow Authentication and Portal services provides Glow users with access to a range of educational services, applications and content using a single username and password. It brings together approved learning applications into a single dashboard, making it easier for schools and local authorities to access a wealth of learning, teaching and assessment apps and services.

App Criteria #

Schools and local authorities can request a specific app, extension or web service by following the process on this page.

Any new apps must meet the following criteria:

  • The app must be appropriate for Curriculum for Excellence;
  • The app must comply with all applicable laws, including the Data Protection Act 1998 and the UK General Data Protection Regulations (UK GDPR);
  • The app provider confirms that all personal data in relation to the app is held within and will not be transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area (EEA);
  • There is an agreed notice period if the app were to be withdrawn.

How do I get an app or extension installed for my local authority or establishment? #

If you feel that an app, extension or web service integration would be beneficial to your local authority or establishment, please get in touch with your Glow Key Contact.

An Application for Apps and Extensions will need to be completed and submitted by your Glow Key Contact (using their Glow login) and include approval from your Information Security Officer. Consideration should be given to the educational value, security and privacy of the app or extension, including GDPR compliance. There should also be a decision on whether the app should be available for Staff, Learners or both.

Please note that only Glow Key Contacts have permission to complete the form. If you are a Glow Key Contact and are unable to access the form, then please reach out to Glow.Engagement@educationscotland.gov.scot.

National Apps #

National Applications are apps that have been accepted by Education Scotland as having national benefit. These apps are 100% free to use and align to the 3-18 curriculum. National Applications are generally integrated using Single Sign-On (SSO) and are made available via the RM Unify App Library.
