Google will support Chrome Web Apps, also called Chrome Packaged Apps, until Jan 2025.

Google’s recommended replacement for a Chrome Web App is called a Progressive Web App (PWA).

  • These are websites that were perhaps once a Chrome Web App.
  • These websites act like an app for example Kami. These websites require a user to sign in using their Glow Google account. However in order for Glow Users to use these websites with their Glow Google account, it is necessary for these website to be whitelisted (added) to the Google tenant.
  • Whitelisting/adding a website or PWA to a Glow Google tenant would be for ALL users as there are no configuration options to split by staff/students within the Google Admin console, i.e. if you allowed API access to a web service that can access user data then ALL tenant users would be able to sign in and use the service.
  • Google tightened the Third-Party Apps Settings in Oct 23 so that:
    • Those that required Basic user information can be signed into by any user
    • Those that required access to Google data (Classroom, Drive etc) require the Client ID to be added/whitelisted
  • Glow Google tenants are set to:
