Overview: #

Microsoft Reading Progress, also known as Reading Progress in Teams, is another tool from Microsoft designed to support reading development, but with a specific focus on reading fluency in students. It’s primarily aimed at educators and works within Microsoft Teams for Education.

How it works: #

For Educators:

  • Create assignments: Educators can assign reading passages from a library or upload their own (Word or PDF).
  • Differentiation: Passages can be chosen based on student reading levels, ensuring appropriate challenge for each individual.
  • Independent practice: Students record themselves reading the passages aloud using their cameras and mics.
  • Insights and feedback: Educators can review student recordings, provide feedback, and track progress over time through detailed data and reports.

For Students:

  • Personalised practice: Students receive feedback on their recordings, highlighting areas for improvement like accuracy, pace, and expression.
  • Self-reflection tools: Students can review their recordings alongside the text, allowing them to identify and address their own challenges.
  • Motivational features: Progress tracking and positive reinforcement help students stay engaged and motivated in their reading practice.

Benefit: #

  • Efficient assessment: Educators can assess reading fluency for multiple students simultaneously without individual one-on-one sessions.
  • Targeted instruction: Data from recordings helps educators tailor their teaching to individual student needs.
  • Student confidence: Personalised practice and feedback boost student confidence and reading skills.
