Appropriate Use: Video/Audio #
Please be aware that Stream contains video and/or voice recording technology. It is the responsibility of the user not to create content which contains inappropriate or concerning text or imagery, or which contains any personal, sensitive or confidential information. As the Data Controller, please ensure all data is handled in line with your organisations data handling policy, the GDPR and the Data Protection Act. Should you require further information relating to the handling and management of this type of data please refer to your Data Protection Officer.
What is it? #
Microsoft Stream is a video service that is part of Microsoft 365. It allows you to record, upload, share, and watch videos seamlessly across various Microsoft 365 apps like Teams, SharePoint, OneNote and OneDrive.

Why would I use it? #
Stream is designed to enhance collaboration and communication by integrating video into everyday workflows for both practitioners and pupils within Glow.
Key features of Stream #
- AI Integration: Use AI to edit, caption, and summarise videos, making them more accessible and engaging
- Collaboration: Share videos and collaborate with comments, @mentions, and reactions
- Accessibility: Automatically generated captions and transcripts in multiple languages
- Analytics: Measure the engagement and effectiveness of your video content with detailed analytics
Stream in Glow #
- By default, students are only able to upload videos to OneDrive
- Students are able to use the screen recording and camera recording so care should be taken when creating these kind of videos
- Students need to be aware of surroundings and what they are recording on their screens
- Students should only record or upload content that they are permitted to record, and that is appropriate for a learning and teaching environment.
- Before uploading content, please ensure that all data is handled in line with your organisation’s data handling policy, the GDPR and the Data Protection Act
How do I get started? #
Open the Microsoft 365 App launcher, select All apps, and then select Stream.

Uploading and recording videos #
You can upload your videos into OneDrive or SharePoint by using the upload button and browsing for your video.
The video will be uploaded to your OneDrive or SharePoint.
You can then access and play the videos from Stream.
Stream video start page #
Please note:
Currently uploading video via the Stream start page does not support files larger than 2GB. Please directly upload on SharePoint/OneDrive site.
Uploading
Once you open the Stream App from the M365 app launcher, you will be presented with the Stream video start page that lets you find all your videos no matter where you uploaded them across Microsoft 365. You also have the ability to upload videos directly into Stream by selecting the upload button along your top navigation.
Recording, Playlists and Video Projects
Along the top navigation, you will see a some options that allow you to create the following:

Screen recording: Record your screen to create explainer videos, product demos, or tutorials directly within Microsoft 365.
Benefits: Easily capture and share your screen activities, add effects like inking and text, and enhance videos with background music and stickers.

Camera recording: Use your device’s camera to record videos directly in Microsoft Stream.
Benefits: Create personalised class videos, tutorials or training videos. You can also add effects and background removal to enhance your recordings.

Playlist: Organise videos into playlists for easy access and viewing.
Benefits: Group related class content, training videos or revision material, making it easier for users to find and watch videos in a logical sequence.

Video project: Combine multiple video clips, images, and audio into a single cohesive video project.
Benefits: Create comprehensive video presentations or training materials by integrating various media elements, enhancing the overall learning and viewing experience.
Sharing of staff videos #
Please note that only staff have the ability to share videos outside of Glow.
Once you have created or uploaded your video, you are now ready to share your video.
Click the 3 dots next to your video and then select “Share”. Please note you can also add tags and labels from this menu to support with findability.
From here you can share directly to Teams or select the appropriate option from the list available. Screenshot on the right that showcases the sharing options available.
Please make sure that you share videos responsibly.
