Have you ever looked at an image on a blog and wished you could make different parts of it clickable, so readers could tap or hover over an area to find out more?
That’s exactly what the Draw Attention plugin does, and once you’ve seen it in action, it’s one of those tools you’ll wonder how you managed without.
What is Draw Attention?
Draw Attention is a WordPress plugin that lets you turn any image into an interactive image map. You draw hotspot areas directly onto your image in the dashboard, and when a reader clicks or hovers over one of those areas, they see more information: text, links, images, or even video.
Think of it like adding Post-it notes to a photograph, except the notes only appear when your reader goes looking for them.

What can you use it for in Glow Blogs?
This plugin has real potential for both teachers, learners and anyone else looking to make their content more interactive. A few ideas to get you thinking:
🗺️ Annotated diagrams: upload a diagram of the human body, a historical map, or a science experiment setup, then add hotspots explaining each labelled area. Great for science, geography, or history.
📸 Interactive case studies: add a photograph of a habitat, a building, or an artwork and let pupils click different areas to explore further.
🔍 Learner-created content: pupils could build their own annotated images as a way of demonstrating understanding – a more visual and engaging alternative to a written response.
🏫 School tours and welcome pages: use a photo of your school building or classroom, add clickable areas that link to useful pages or information, and you’ve got a welcoming interactive space. Ideal for transition or parent blogs.

There’s a dedicated Glow examples site where you can explore Draw Attention in practice: Draw Attention | A Few Examples for the Draw Attention Plugin
And if you’d rather watch than read, there’s also a short how-to video walking you through the process: How To | Draw Attention
These are well worth a look before you dive in as seeing a working example can really help.
How does it work?
Once you’ve activated Draw Attention from your list of plugins, a Draw Attention section appears in your menu. From there, you:
Upload or select an image from your media library.
- Upload or select an image from your media library.
- Use the drawing tool to click and drag shapes over the areas you want to make interactive.
- For each hotspot, add a title and description, and choose what happens when someone clicks – show more info, or link to another page.
- Embed the interactive image into any post or page using a simple shortcode or the WordPress block editor.
The drawing tools are intuitive. You can draw rectangles, circles, or freeform polygons for more irregular shapes. If you make a mistake, it’s easy to drag points around or start again.
A few things worth knowing
- The plugin works on all devices, including tablets and mobiles.
- It’s accessible – hotspots can be navigated by keyboard.
- The free version lets you create one interactive image, which is plenty to get started and explore what’s possible.
- Hotspot content is edited using the standard WordPress text editor, so no technical knowledge is needed.
Bonus tip: Combine with a Canva embed
If you’re already designing visuals in Canva, it’s worth knowing that you can embed Canva designs directly into a Glow Blog post. This pairs really nicely with Draw Attention – design a polished diagram or infographic in Canva, export it as an image, then bring it to life with interactive hotspots.
