NotebookLM: Infographics and Presentations

What’s changed?

NotebookLM has recently expanded its “Studio” capabilities to include the visual generation of Slides and Infographics. These features complement the existing “Audio Overview” by adding a visual dimension to how the AI synthesises your uploaded documents.

You can see the new options in the screenshot on the right.

Overview

Powered by Gemini, these new features allow you to transform dense text, such as research papers, PDFs, policy documents or course material, into professional visual assets with a single click.

  • Slide Decks: The AI analyses your sources to build a structured presentation. It selects key themes, organises them into a logical flow, creates bullet points for slides, and often suggests images or diagrams to accompany the text. It functions as a “first draft” generator for presentations that can then be edited in Google Slides.
  • Infographics: This feature condenses complex information into a single, high-impact visual summary. It is ideal for visualising timelines, processes, statistical data, or relationships between concepts (e.g., “The Water Cycle” or “Causes of the French Revolution”).

Educator Benefits

These new features have the potential to increase productivity and support learner engagement.

Rapid Lesson Preparation: Example – Upload a complex document and generate a “Slide Deck” to introduce the core concepts to your class the next morning.
Support for Visual Learners: Example – Use the Infographic feature to turn a text-heavy handout into a clean visual flowchart that helps students grasp the information at a glance.
Instant Differentiation & Study Aids: Example – After a lesson, provide students with the raw text notes and an AI-generated Infographic summary. This gives students another option to review the material and can support those who struggle with reading and digesting lots of text information.
Curriculum Visualisation: Example – Upload your course materials and generate an Infographic titled “Course Roadmap.” It can visually map out major assignments, exam dates, and grading weights, setting clear expectations.
