Speaker Coach now available within Teams Meetings

Overview

Microsoft Speaker Coach is a handy tool within Microsoft 365 that helps improve public speaking skills.

It comes in two main flavours, each offering unique functionalities via Microsoft PowerPoint and now in Microsoft Teams Meetings.

Please note:

  • Speaker Coach in Teams Meetings is only available in the Teams Desktop app and currently not available in the Teams Web App.
  • This feature also doesn’t work if the meeting is set up within a Teams Channel.

Process for accessing Speaker Coach in a Teams Meeting

Both Educators and Students can access Speaker Coach in a Teams Meeting via the Teams Desktop App and it will provide personalised feedback.

How to manually enable Speaker Coach

  • Join Teams Meeting on the Desktop App
  • Click on the 3 dots above More along the top navigation bar
  • Click on Language and speech
  • Select Turn on Speaker Coach

How to Turn on Speaker Coach for all meetings

  • Open a Speaker Coach report from a past meeting
  • In the report, turn on the Automatically start Speaker Coach in meetings toggle (see screenshot on the right)

Please note:

  • This setting only applies to the individual device. To apply automatic Speaker Coach settings to multiple devices, turn the setting on in each device.
  • Signing out of Microsoft Teams resets this setting.

How can I access the Speaker Coach report?

At the end of the meeting, you will get a notification to let you know your report is ready.

You will also be able to find it along the top navigation of your meeting (see screenshot below).

What does the report look like?

The report provides an overview of how you spoke during your meeting or presentation after it ends (see Screenshot 1).

Learn important details like your total speaking time, use of repetitive language, and much more.

You can click on each of the sections on the left hand navigation to view more insights and feedback (see Screenshot 2).

Your Speaker Coach report is only visible to you.
