What’s changing?
Jamboard is coming to an end and with that there are actions that you can take now to preserve the data you’d like to keep. See below for the timeline, advice and where to find more information.
Milestones
Up to 1 October 2024
- Jamboard devices and applications function normally.
Starting on 1 October 2024
- The Jamboard app will become view-only. You’ll no longer be able to create new or edit existing Jams on any platform, including the web, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Jamboard devices. We will also start converting Jams to PDF.
- The 55-inch Jamboard device will reach its Auto Update Expiration (AUE). You will no longer be able to use the device to join Meet meetings, and it will not save information to the cloud. Learn more about the Jamboard device end-of-life.
- You’ll no longer be able to access the Jamboard app or your Jam files.
After 31 December 2024
- You’ll no longer be able to access the Jamboard app or your Jam files.
What should I do to prepare for this change? Will I be able to keep my Jam files in Drive?
You are encouraged to download the Jams you would like to keep before December 31, 2024. Learn how to Export your Jams.
During the view-only period, Google will also convert Jams to PDF on a best-effort basis. It is recommended that you proactively migrate the Jams to another service if you would like to continue working on them.
What does Google recommend using moving forward?
Google are working with FigJam by Figma, Lucid Software, and Miro on migration paths for existing Jams so you don’t lose your old work. Jamboard users can use the new whiteboard technology within Google Meet. In addition to deep integration with Google Meet, users can also expect to see these whiteboard tools further incorporated into Google Workspace apps, including Drive, Calendar, and Docs.
Keep in mind that your Jam file may not be 100% editable after migrating to a Google partner. Please check each Google partners’ website for details.
