If you use a team code to add pupils or colleagues to a private team in Microsoft Teams, they’re no longer added automatically. You now need to approve join requests and the user is only added once you approve.
What happens:
- The user enters the team code as usual.
- You, as the team owner, get a join request.
- You approve or reject the request, and the user is only added once you approve.
Top tips:
- If someone says they’ve entered the code but can’t see the team, check for pending join requests.
- If you’re adding a whole class, give yourself a few minutes to approve the requests.
- Public teams haven’t changed, and users still join straight away with a code.
- Team codes are still generated and used the same way:
- To generate a code: Team settings > Team code
- To use a code: the New items menu in Chat or Channels
You don’t need to change any settings.
