What’s changing?
To support with increasing security of Microsoft Teams meetings, Microsoft are updating the labels that can appear beside participants’ names.
To bring in consistency and accuracy, Microsoft are introducing the term Unverified, which will be seen for all meeting participants who do not have a trusted relationship with the meeting organiser.
All participants who are not part of the organiser’s organisation but are configured as a trusted relationship with the organiser will continue to be termed as External.
Additionally, Microsoft are ensuring that all areas within Team meetings – lobby, participant roster, meeting chat, and so on – will consistently show accurate user labels.
Participant labels
No label
All participants who join a meeting hosted in Glow with their Glow account.
External
All participants from an organisation that has been requested and added to the list for external access e.g. some local authority tenancies.
Unverified
Any other external user, including users not joining from an M365 account e.g. parents etc.
How will this affect my Teams meeting I organise or join?
If you organise or join meetings where there are external participants, you will notice these participant labels. This helps you identify when users are joining from outside of Glow.

Who will be able to see the labels?
Microsoft states that the upcoming label changes will be visible to both organisers and participants attending meetings with users from outside of their external organisations.
