Google Gemini Champion Use Cases: Things to be aware of

Google Gemini Champion Use Cases: Things to be aware of

Overview:

Gemini, and indeed any other AI tools, require oversight, fact-checking, and refinement to ensure accuracy and suitability for your needs. Output generated by AI tools should not be blindly trusted and used without this review.

Pilot participants provided the following caution:

Accuracy is Not Guaranteed: Gemini is not always accurate, so fact-checking and verification are essential. Do not assume its output is ready for presentation or publication without careful review.
Content May Require Refinement: Gemini’s output may need to be “coaxed around” by re-writing or adding further information to the initial prompt. It’s an iterative process to get the desired results.
Guidance May Not Match Your Version: Be mindful that training materials or guidance might not align with your specific version of Gemini (e.g., “Fundamentals” vs. a more advanced version). Always double-check compatibility.
Not a Replacement for Critical Thinking: Gemini is a tool to test your own thinking or knowledge, not a substitute for it. Use it to explore ideas and gain different angles, but always apply your own judgment.
Not Always Class-Ready: Do not rely on Gemini to produce finished presentations or classroom materials without significant editing and fact-checking. It is a starting point, not a final product.

Quotes from Gemini Champions:

“It’s often used to test your own thinking or knowledge, to check if what you are thinking is along the right lines. It’s useful when you are starting a piece of work as it’s very good at presenting information and ideas concisely which you can then choose to start working with or ignore. Sometimes AI throws up new information or different angles on things, other times, it doesn’t quite get things right but can usually be coaxed round by re-writing or adding in the initial prompt with further points or information you want it to look at”
“That it does not produce presentations or class ready materials- it is not always accurate and that has to be at the forefront of anything you do”
“AI does some of the admin tasks but the user needs to do the thinking”
“Be mindful of the limitations of AI. Gemini is a powerful tool, but it’s not perfect. It may sometimes generate incorrect or biased information”
“Always review and edit the output generated by Gemini before sharing it with students”
Use Gemini as a tool to enhance your teaching, not as a replacement for your expertise
Remember, the key to using Gemini AI effectively is to experiment and find ways that it can best support your teaching practices
