Google Gemini Champion Use Cases: Sharing Best Practices
Google Gemini Champion Use Cases: Sharing Best Practices
Overview:
Pilot participants found Gemini to be a powerful tool for individual teachers and also appreciated the opportunity to collaborate in a safe space as part of the Google Gemini Champions sessions, which helped ease initial anxieties about the pilot. Now that the Gemini pilot has ended and Gemini has been made available to all Google Tenancies in Glow, an AI TEAM space has been established to help facilitate ongoing collaboration going forward. Glow staff interested in sharing AI experiences and learning about Gemini are encouraged to join.
Some of the examples of sharing best practices, including writing prompts, report during the pilot are as follows:
Building Confidence and Enthusiasm:
Overcoming Initial Hesitations: By sharing their own experiences, including initial anxieties and subsequent successes, teachers helped colleagues overcome potential hesitations about using AI tools.
Inspiring & Motivating: Enthusiastic champions are inspiring and motivating others to explore the potential of Gemini, creating a ripple effect of excitement and innovation. One example of how this is being achieved is through ‘lunch and learn’ sessions.
Focusing on Practical Support & Time Savings:
Supporting Colleagues: Educators are using Gemini to directly support their colleagues, focusing on practical applications and demonstrating how Gemini can save time on everyday tasks. This peer-to-peer support is invaluable for encouraging adoption and effective use.
Champion Programs & Safe Spaces: Exploring Gemini, sharing feedback, asking questions, and learning from one another. These programs help build confidence and encourage open communication.
Prompts:
Improved Experience: The process of using Gemini prompts became easier over time.
Learning Curve: Initially, some pilot users struggled with providing too much information in prompts, leading to less desirable outputs. They learned that simpler prompts are more effective.
Sharing examples: One user finds Gemini useful for generating teaching content based on learning outcomes and plans to share ideas for simple prompts during wider staff training.
Quotes from Gemini Champions:
“I was really nervous at the start of this pilot and I was keen to be part of this champion programme so I could join the monthly meetings, share feedback, ask questions and it really felt like a safe space. I feel a bit more confident now and have really enjoyed this programme and the opportunity to be part of it”
“Really just trying to support colleagues the best I can and particularly focusing on saving time with day to day tasks”
“If we don’t teach our young people about AI they will learn elsewhere, we cannot ignore it and need to be thinking about that”
“I think it would need to be a compulsory CPD or in-service day training to ensure all staff were exposed to its potential”
