Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Education Scotland is committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Website and Mobile Applications)(No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the areas of non-compliance listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Some document formats such as PDF, MS Word and Excel may not be fully accessible. Where is is in our capability to do so, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.
Disproportionate burden
Some of the older PDF, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents on this website do not meet accessibility standards (e.g. they may not be structured in a way that is accessible to a screen reader). This does not meet WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 4.1.2.
We have assessed the resources and time required to fix or replace all of these documents. Due to the volume of documents, the significant time and staff resources this would require, and the fact that some of these documents were not created by Education Scotland, we believe that it would be a disproportionate burden to update them all.
Where possible, we will ensure that any essential content is available in another accessible format on request.
Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDF documents
Accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDF or other documents published before 23rd September, 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services. Any new documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Video captions
We do not plan to add captions to videos produced by Education Scotland prior to September 2020 because these are exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
